Rapture of the Deep – The Textile Art of Tzuri Gueta
Textile Arts Center, New York Textile Month
September 2018
Rapture of the Deep, a site-specific installation made by Tzuri Gueta and curated by fashion historian Ya'ara Keydar, was part of a collection of exhibitions hosted by the Textile Arts Center in honor of New York Textile Month, initiated by Li Edelkoort. Gueta, a Paris-based multidisciplinary artist from Israel, creates handmade textile art using a unique method combining silk lace and silicone, inspired by his childhood memories of underwater exploration. The immersive installation was named after Jacques Cousteau's phrase describing an altered mental state experienced during deep-sea diving and invited the viewers to experience a meditative, escapist underwater world.
